2026 GOLF LEAGUE RULES

The league officers are the rules committee.

First night is scheduled for: April 13th 2026

League w/carts fees: $440.00 (make checks payable to, 777 Golf League.)

We are playing at Pine View Golf Course, located at 5820 Stony Creek, Ypsilanti. We will be using team averages to determine points, and averages will be established on the first night of golf. As you play, please keep one scorecard for the entire foursome. Mark Wilde will calculate the averages and points for the first night of golf. After that, each foursome will be expected to calculate their own points. Directions for scoring begin on page 2.

Your league fee is to be paid in full to Jack Wagner by the first night, or earlier. Please review these rules as soon as possible. If you have any comments or concerns, please let Jack know prior to the first night.

Personal coolers are not allowed on the golf course. All alcoholic beverages must be purchased at the golf course. Failure to comply may result in the loss of our tee time and golf fees.

SCHEDULE AND MATCHES

Our golfing season will run from April 13th thru August 24th, 2026.  (plus any extra time due to rain outs and holidays)  

Once we have all players signed up, a schedule of tee times will be published for the entire season. Please save that sheet and refer to it for your teams tee times.

The league tee times are from 4:32 pm to 5:12 pm.
We will be golfing on one nine per night.
We will not be golfing on Memorial Day May 25, 2026, The week of July 4th, or Labor Day Sept 7th.

Our golf outing has not been planned.  Anyone interested in running on please let the league officers know.

Please show up at the golf course as scheduled, regardless of what the weather looks like. Any decision to cancel or suspend league night play due to weather must be made by the golf course. The only exception is when lightening is present; in that event any player can suspend play if the course has not already done so. If we have been told by the course is closed due to weather, we will do our best to post it on the Facebook page.

SUSPENDED PLAY

If play is suspended

On the green- putt out if possible. If not, mark your ball and head for shelter.

In the fairway- leave your ball or mark its position and head for shelter.

On the tee- head for shelter.

 

FEES

Season fees should be paid before golf on the first night or before leaving to Jack Wagner, (make checks payable to, 777 Golf League.) the golf course will not accept greens fees from players. You must pay greens fees whether or not you play. Substitutes will not have to pay.

The league must guarantee the number of teams which will play each week. If a team drops out of the league the league is still responsible for greens fees for that team. And there will be no refunds. 

Carts are included in the greens fees. Cart fee is used for riding or pull cart.

PRIZES

Weekly prizes will be awarded to the player closest to the pin on designated holes, front and back.  Trophies for the first half and second half league champions will be awarded at the end of the season.

SCORING AND AVERAGES

Each player’s strokes should be recorded at the completion of each hole. PLEASE FILL OUT YOUR SCORE CARD AT THE NEXT TEE- NOT ON THE GREEN. You must count all strokes, and yes whiffs count as a stroke.  The score recorded for each hole is final unless a protest is declared by your opponents before teeing off on the next hole. Any protest should be settled by teams in the clubhouse or by the Rules Committee before the following weeks match. Scorecards are final when signed by a member of each team and turned in to the league secretary. Please be sure your scorecard has been filled out correctly and completed before signing and attesting.

Scores will not count unless they have been signed by one team member and attested to by an opposing team member.

The average of each player on a team will be used to determine the team average. Your team average will be compared to the opposing team’s average. The team with the higher average will be given a handicap equal to 80% of the difference between the two team averages.

For example:

            Team A’s Average = 115
            Team B’s Average = 95   
            115-95= 20
            Team A’s Handicap = 20 x 80% = 16

Team A’s handicap of 16 means that as a team they will receive two strokes on the seven hardest holes as rated by the golf course and one stroke on the remaining two holes. If 80% of the difference between the teams averages results in a half stroke, round to the nearest whole numbers; 50 or greater, round up, 49 or less, drop.  No strokes given on par 3’s.

Returning players and those who subbed last year will use average from last season.  New players and subs will establish their avg. on each night for the first three weeks they play.  Ongoing averages will be calculated using the scores from the most recent five weeks of league play. Averages can change each week. There is no limit on the avg. going up or down. There is a double par rule in effect with a max. avg. of 72. (see rule #3 under Speeding Up Play).

To calculate a player’s averaged on the first night, ½ of the strokes on the hole for which the player was most over par will be deducted from the total score. For example, the player scored 1 to 3 strokes over par on 8 holes, and 4 strokes on 1 hole for a total score of 52. ½ of the strokes on the hole most over par is 2, the players average is 52-2 = 50. If ½ of the strokes over par is equal to an odd number round up. Example: If the number is 3, ½ equals 1.5, so round up to 2.

A match is considered complete if 4 or more holes have been played. A league night is considered played if the last group has finished 4 holes.  To complete scores for less than nine holes, leave the score on the socre blank, I will use completed holes to calculate the remaining holes. Basically to do this, I will divide the total score for the holes completed by the total par for the holes completed. Then multiply this number by the total par of the uncompleted holes.
Example:
            Score for 7 completed holes……..36
            Par for 7 completed holes………..27
            Par for 2 uncompleted holes………8

 36/27 = 1.33 x 8 = 10.76 (round to 11)
Scored used for calculated average is 47
36 (7 holes completed) + 11 (2 uncompleted holes) = 47

AWARDING POINTS

A total of 18 points will be awarded for each match as follows:
2 points for each hole won.
1 for each hole tied.
0 points for a lost hole.
 
This awarding of points is the same for any combination of four golfers, including all subs.

When either team has only one golfer, that golfer assumes the role of the absent golfer, that is to say, you double the golfer’s average and their handicap as though the absent golfer is an identical golfer. The points are then awarded exactly the same as if there were four golfers.

When one TEAM is absent, that team assumes a par average and that TEAM averages bogey for the round that night. This is based on the forfeit table found on the webpage. Basically, if the par is 4, and the forfeit value is 1 (0,1,2 three each) the TEAM shoots a 9. The other team must have at least one regular player or eligible sub. It forces the team present to shoot as well as possible. The better they shoot the more points they will get.
The absent team will receive (0) points for that night.
THIS RULE ALSO APPLIES TO POSITION NIGHTS.

SPEEDING UP PLAY

In an effort to speed up play and get everyone though their nine holes while it’s still light, we are implementing the following rules again this year.

1.      Putting Out- All players should putt out during their turn, do not mark your ball and wait until you are furthest from the hole to putt again. You shouldn’t need more than a few seconds to get your line of putt. If you are not in someone’s line putt out, or ask an opponent if it’s alright to finish out.

2.      Lost Balls- Take three minutes or less to look for a ball in the woods. Drop another ball and play if from the point where you think it went into the woods, counting the drop as a stroke.

3.      Maximum Strokes per Hole- there is a double par rule for each hole. After that you must pick you your ball and record that score for that hole.

4.      Teams Arriving Late- To avoid getting backed up on the first tee, teams without opponents may be matched up with another team and sent out to play and match cards with their original opponents in the club house. This rule could be enforced.

5.      Tee Times- Teams should be on the tee 15 minutes before your tee time. If you’re going to be late call your opponents.

6.      When coming to the green to putt or chip, place your bag on the side of the green closest to the next hole.

7.      On the fairway, if the group is out of range take your shot whether or not you’re the furthest from the hole, and remember to maintain the course.

8.      As they are ‘gimme putts’, and not ‘takemes’, they should be decided by the foursome. At the beginning of the round the foursome may declare something like “any ball inside the putter handle is an automatic gimme”

9.      To make the league play as fair as possible, the player is only allowed to move the ball in the fairway (6) inches but no closed to the hole. This can be done only if the ball is next to a sprinkler, bare spot, stones, or divot. If the ball is in the rough, it must be played as it lies. The ball can be dropped in the rough or anywhere if the following conditions occur. The ball is laying of top, between, or close enough to roots, rocks, or objects that may cause damage to your clubs or injure you or someone else. If this occurs ask your opponents if you can move the ball to a better spot without penalty.

10.  The ball cannot be dropped to avoid a hazard, such as one side or the other of a tree or bush or any object that would be considered a natural hazard. It can still be dropped from a man-made obstruction without penalty such as a staked tree or bush. It can be moved left, right, or back, but no closer to the hole.

Please read over the moving the ball rules above carefully.

RULES:

MATCH MAKE UP / RESCHEDULE:
Make up matches will be allowed on position nights only but must be approved by league officers first.  Both teams must be present.  The match must be played that week prior to the night being made up.  A league officer must be present at the course to check scores and see that the card is signed and given to Mark Wilde. BALL LOST IN THE ROUGH:
If a ball is hit in the rough, limit search time to less than 2 minutes. The player can drop a replacement ball in the rough, in the general area of where the shot was viewed to land.  This ball can be hit without penalty.  If original ball is later found it is now out of play.  This rule does not apply to hazards (woods, ponds, creeks, or out-of-bounds). A player may choice to drop the ball in the fairway, within a club length, and take a one stroke penalty.

SAND TRAP RULE:
--- As the course is improving the sand-traps, you now (April 2024) need permission from an opponent to invoke this rule. ---
Due to the neglect and therefore the extreme hardness of the sand traps, this rule has been added to handle such problems.  A ball entering the sand trap that is deemed too hard to play, with your opponent’s permission that ball may be pulled back in the “line of flight” and be placed outside the trap but no closer to the hole, without penalty.  Anyone wishing to play the shot from in the trap may do so.

SENIOR TEES:
The course charges open golfers based on age, any player who is qualified for senior rates, at any during the season and wanting to play from the senior tees, may elect to play from the senior tees but must declare this on the first night and then must play from the senior tees all season. Pine View says 55 is the age for Seniors.  At Pineview the Senior Tees are Golden/yellowish.

DELAY OF GAME:
If a ranger, or a league officer, tells you that you are too far behind and that your foursome must pick up the pace of play, this rule effects all four players, once on the green all players in the foursome will pick up their balls, no putting is allowed for the rest of the round.  Upon reaching the green, assess your stokes and add 2 stokes (as limited by the strokes per-hole rule).  So as an example, on a par 4 if someone is on in 3 strokes, you would add 2 stokes making an automatic 5, but if someone is on in 7 adding 2 strokes gets clipped by the double par rule, so the result is a score of 8.

SUPER-SENIOR TEES:
Any Golfer who is or will be 80 during this golf season will golf from the forward tees.  At Pineview the forward tees are Red.

Assigning New Teams for Next Year:
I will assign new teams based on total point for the year.  If there is a tie I will look at the total points against each other and assign the one with the most points as the lower number team.
Currently the teams that wins the first half becomes team #1, and the second half #2.  Beginning 2027 we will assign team #1 to the team with the high points against the other team from the fist half winners vs the second half winners.  In the event that this is a tie then it will revert to first half is #1, and second half is #2.

HOLE # 6:   NOW SUPERCEDED by “BALL LOST IN THE ROUGH”
Pine View added a new course rule for hole #6.
This rule states that any ball hit inside the foundation or outside and found, can be moved without penalty to a drop area.  If the ball is not found it will be a penalty of one stroke and will be played from the drop area.  If the ball is on the concrete area between the foundation and the silo it can be moved two club lengths no closer to the hole without penalty.  If the ball is next to silo it can be moved without penalty two club lengths.
